Sangama will be celebrating Ganeshotsava on Sunday - September 7th, 2003

O’ Elephant God - Thou shall remove all Obstacles

Hello All and welcome back.

Sangama Welcomes you all to the Annual Ganesha Pooja at The Parkway Cental Middle School (directions) on September 7th at 10:30 AM. The Gauri Pooja starts at 9:30 AM.

We would first like to thank all of you for making the Father’s Day picnic a grand success. It was a fun filled and enjoyable event.

As you know, just before this upcoming Ganapathi festival, we had Ganapathi Bhat’s music concert at the temple. With Mr. Gopalakrishna Hegde on Tabla and Mr. Ravindra Katoti on Harmonium, it was an evening of music par excellence. The evening ended with people wanting to hear more of the classical Hindustani as well as Dasavani and Marathi Abhangs.

Thanks for your support in making the concert a success.

Special Thanks to The Hindu Temple, K.K Sankaran, Anjali Apte, Ajay Kamath, Gururaj Nagarajan and Suresh for all their help and sponsorship in making this event happen.

"Vakrathunda Mahakaya koti Surya samaprabha Nirvighnam kurume deva sarvakaryeshu sarvada"

Traditional Hindu families often say ‘Before venturing in to anything new, pray to Lord Ganesha’. The elephant-headed deity is known as the ‘Lord of Beginnings’ and the benign ‘Remover of Obstacles’, and at the start of any new enterprise, Pooja is offered to him.

Why does Lord Ganesha have the head of an elephant?

Legend says that the Goddess Parvathi created a son from the sandal paste on her, while her husband Lord Shiva was away, whom she then instructed to guard the door while she bathed.

Her husband returned, puzzled to find a strange young man in his house. The boy, not knowing that Lord Shiva was his father, refused him entry, causing a furious Shiva to cut off his own son’s head. On learning the boy’s identity, Lord Shiva dispatched his ganas to bring back the head of the first creature they met.

They returned with the head of an elephant, which Lord Shiva attached to his son’s body and brought him back to life.
