We all had a great time on Sept 7th celebrating the birthday of the beloved deity Ganapathi and were delighted to meet so many people and many new families that became part of our Sangama family.

Welcome to Sangama!!

Sangama is celebrating another birthday, this time it is our state of Karnataka on November 1st 2003 at Crestview Middle School (directions).

This is the 30th birthday of Karnataka - our state, known as the temple of art and culture.

We look forward to the kids participating in the planned events and learn more about the heritage of Karnataka.

5:30 to 6:00 PM Socializing
6:00 to 7:30 PM Dinner
8:00 to 10:00 PM Cultural Program

In 1956, India became a Republic. In the same year, states were formed based on the spoken language. One of the states was Mysore, a princely state that was ruled by the Wodeyar kings. (They lived in the palace pictured above) During the formation of this new state based on the language KANNADA, it also included several districts in North Karnataka and Hyderabad Karnataka. The new districts wanted a new name to include their identity in the state and as time progressed, the State Government deliberated the demand for change of name from Mysore. Finally, in 1973, Mysore was renamed as Karnataka by the then Chief Minister, Sri. Devaraj Urs on the first of November, now known as Rajyothsava, the birthday of the state of Karnataka.

Long Live Kannada!
