About Us
Established in 1985, Sangama began as a small group of like-minded Kannadigas and has grown into a vibrant organization of 150+ families today. Sangama proudly hosts four major annual events: Ugadi (Kannada New Year) in April, Father’s Day picnic in June, the Ganesha festival in fall, and Karnataka Rajyotsava in early winter. Along with these celebrations, members enjoy wonderful food, fellowship, and cultural bonding.
Over the years, Sangama has welcomed numerous accomplished musicians, poets, and artists. Many special concerts and programs are co-hosted with Sangeetha and other organizations, reflecting Sangama’s strong community spirit and commitment to collaborative participation. In the early 1990s, Sangama also organized a highly successful Midwest Kannada Conference in St. Louis.
In April 2011, during Ugadi celebrations, Sangama hosted Snehada Kannada Sammilana to commemorate its glorious Silver Jubilee year. This historic event brought together Kannada associations from neighboring cities and St. Louis Kannadigas, featuring diverse cultural activities and a vibrant showcase of artistic talent.
In May 2015, Sangama sponsored the 7th Kannada Sahitya Ranga event in St. Louis — a two-day cultural gathering featuring Kannada literature, performing arts, and traditional hospitality. The event was attended by writers from across the USA and Canada, with participation of around 300+. More details are available at www.kannadasahityaranga.org.
Children and youth who have grown up in St. Louis have greatly benefited from Sangama’s nurturing platform for Indian culture, heritage, language, friendship, and family values. Through bhajans, plays, songs, and dance performances, members of all ages showcase their hidden talents. Many young Sangama members have also excelled in Carnatic music and classical dance events, including youth concerts, Cleveland Aradhanas, Chennai music sabhas, and festivals across the country.
Sangama members eagerly look forward to every event as an opportunity to reconnect with friends and community. With a strong history and deep mutual support among members, Sangama looks ahead to many more years of togetherness.
